Junior Leadership
‘I love that we are given responsibilities by the teachers.’ – (Year 3 pupil)
At St Mary’s, leadership begins the moment our pupils step through the school gates. We believe every child has the potential to be a leader and we foster an environment where pupils are encouraged to take responsibility, make decisions and contribute positively to our school community.
Our pupils play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the school, with many opportunities to take on responsibilities that support both their peers and the wider school community. Through these roles, children develop leadership skills, confidence and a sense of accountability, while making a meaningful impact on school life.
We place a strong emphasis on pupil voice. Children know their opinions are valued, and staff actively consult them when decisions are made. This ensures that pupils feel heard, respected and empowered to shape their school environment.
As they grow and develop, pupils are offered progressive leadership opportunities, which build their skills further and benefit the wider school family.
By providing these opportunities, we help pupils thrive personally and socially, fostering resilience, confidence and a sense of belonging. Our school leadership is rooted in the belief that pupils are central to St Mary’s and we work hard to ensure they can make a positive contribution to the school.
Junior Leadership positions around the school
As pupils develop new skills, they are encouraged to take on leadership roles across the school, gaining increased responsibility while supporting and benefiting other children in our school community.
We are continually looking for new ways for pupils to lead and contribute. Below is an overview of the current leadership roles our children undertake.

| Role | Responsibility |
| School Councillors | To bring the views of the class to the student council meeting where decisions about the future of the school will be made. |
| Eco-Warriors | To ensure that the school is being as friendly to the environment as possible. |
