Our Ethos
Our curriculum is framed by shared Catholic values, high expectations and the highest ambition for all our pupils.
As a Catholic Primary School, St.Mary’s works hard to develop and sustain the school’s Catholic distinctiveness. We work in close partnership with the parish, the local community, as well as other schools in the Diocese of Middlesbrough: especially the family of schools in the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust. Our Governors represent Bishop Drainey and work tirelessly in order to nurture the school’s Catholic ethos and ensure faith is manifested through every aspect of school life. Our school motto is taken from Luke’s gospel “Fiat Mihi”. We aim to ensure that all our children know that they are created in God’s image; that they are loved; that God has a plan for them, and that plan is good.
St. Mary’s is founded upon core values. Our principal values are Gospel based: Respect for the Life and Dignity of Each Individual, Trust in God, Honesty, Compassion, Forgiveness, Mercy, Community, Servant Leadership, Equality, Simplicity, Justice and Peace. Gospel Values are what Jesus said, what Jesus did and what He told us to do. Although these values may be supported and shared by Christians and non-Christians alike, theological backgrounds and biblical references help to explore what is distinctively Christian about each value.
‘It is not enough to love the young; they must know that they are loved’ – St John Bosco
All children are taught in love. They know love. They show love.
At St Mary’s we are proud to offer a dynamic, inclusive and nurturing learning environment, an education which inspires academic excellence and confidence for life. Our ‘i Thrive’ approach, to the quality of education we provide, ensures all children reach their full potential.
“Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed. Each of us is loved. Each of us is necessary.”
― Pope Benedict XVI
Mission:
Our children know that like Mary, they too are special; they are chosen; they are loved. We are inspired by Mary’s bravery to say yes to God’s call, and just like Mary, when we say yes to new opportunities our lives can change forever.
Values:
“The Lord gives each of us a vocation, a challenge to discover the talents and abilities we possess and to put them at the service of others”
Pope Francis
