Admissions Information

Starting school, either in a nursery class or in a reception class, can be an anxious time for both parents and children. We hope that the following information will help you to understand the process for choosing a school and applying for a place in that school. If you are wanting to apply for a place at St Mary’s Catholic Primary you must apply directly to Redcar and Cleveland Local Authority, though we would be happy for you and your child/children to visit our school to see what it is like.

If you are applying for your child to join St Mary’s outside of the normal application process for Reception children (e.g. any other year group at any time of the year – Mid-Year Allocations) you will still need to apply to Redcar and Cleveland and will still need to follow our admission criteria.

The school is run by the Board of Directors of Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust as part of the Catholic Church in accordance with its Trust. The Board of Directors is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for determining the academy’s admissions policy.

Deed and Articles of Association seeks at all times to be a witness to Jesus Christ.Whenever there are more applications than places available priority will always be given to Catholic applicants in accordance with the oversubscription criteria listed in the admissions policy.By applying to the school parents or carers are declaring their support for the aims and ethos of the school.

Please be aware that admissions to the Nursery at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School does not guarantee admission to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. The planned admission number for September 2023 is 30.

How and When to apply

Applications must be made on the Local Authority Common Application Form. Parents
applying to a Catholic Academy should also complete the Supplementary Information Form
(SIF) as if the academy is oversubscribed; the information contained within the SIF will allow
the Board of Directors to identify which over subscription criteria your application is to be
considered against. All forms must be returned by the closing date set by the Local Authority.
Failure to provide a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) could affect the category your
application is placed in. Please note that it is the responsibility of the parent/carer to
complete all forms and supply evidence – reminders will not be sent.

Children with an Educational Health and Care Plan which names our academy in their
plan will be admitted to the academy.
