At St Mary’s, we believe that the great outdoors is the ultimate classroom. Our Great Outdoors (GO) Team is a school-wide initiative where every adult, from teachers to support staff, takes an active, dedicated role in championing the power of play. We recognise that play is not just a break from learning but is fundamental to a child’s mental health, happiness and overall development. With research showing that children spend 20% of their school day at play, we are committed to making every second count by ensuring that time is rich with exploration and joy.

Our “GO” vision is simple yet ambitious: “Every child has an amazing hour of high-quality play every day.” We fully embrace this mission, transforming our outdoor spaces into vibrant hubs of creativity and physical challenge. By prioritising high-quality play, the GO Team ensures that our pupils return to their classrooms feeling refreshed, resilient and ready to achieve, proving that an amazing hour outside is the secret ingredient to success inside the classroom.
